History

Mixx Publications (AKA Tokyopop) has had a storied history with publishing shoujo titles.  Initially praised for their daring manga anthology Mixxine which combined such popular shoujo fare such as Sailor Moon and Magic Knights Rayearth with shounen titles like Parasyte, they quickly lost fans with their over-localizations, decision to use the DIC names for the characters in Sailor Moon and "kewl" language.  Their infamous reputation reached new lows with the almost completely unannounced decision to pull Sailor Moon from the anthology and make it its own comic book.

Recently they appear to have turned over a new leaf, with their shoujo anthology Smile and a great decline in spelling and grammatical errors.  Characters are for the most part keeping their original names and in my opinion, claims that the have "destroyed the artwork" are greatly exaggerated.  They still have problems but have a greater commitment to shoujo manga than any other company.  It makes up the majority of their publications.  Their titles are predominantly Kodansha titles, with a heavy dose of Nakayoshi.  They also publish the manga for girl-fave series Gundam Wing.

Addendum : They have since lost a lot of respect for changing almost all the names in Miracle Girls.  Apparently, there is only so much they can do!

As of today (27th of May. 2001) this company is officially scaring me.  These last few licenses have been nothing less than stunning, let's hope they pan out.
